Slitter- Winder Operator

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To support the vision, mission and guiding principles of Toppan USA, Inc.
  • While performing any procedure, all associates must observe applicable Safety, Health, and Environmental rules and guidelines. The use of appropriate personal protective equipment is required.
  • Attend and participate in training opportunities and seminars relevant to this position.
  • Adhere to appropriate Toppan USA operating procedures, benefit rules, employment, and safety policies/practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain Slitter and Winding machine and surrounding areas in a safe condition for all team members. Follow all safe operating procedures and safety rules and regulations. Understand SD sheets for hazardous products in area. Wear designated PPE as required. Train Operator I on safe practices and procedures and ensure compliance
  • Operate all systems continuously without supervision. Complete necessary paperwork. Preparation work (set up next job before finishing current job). Pull samples and make sure samples are labeled.
  • Able to perform Start-up, Set-up, and Product changeovers and work all systems without supervision
  • Compare product specifications with job being run and identify if specifications are being met or not.
  • When quality problems are identified, inform supervision.
  • Lubrication tasks as assigned. Assist Maintenance as required
  • Work to continuously improve productivity and quality to meet or exceed targets every month
  • Conduct an inventory of all materials in the specific area on the first day of every month.
  • Perform visual checks of process; remove defects as required
  • Pack finished product in accordance with SOP’s

Others

  • Support other production area equipment by providing assistance when the Slitter or Winding machine is shut-down
  • Maintain a clean department and operating environment at all times. Dispose of trash.
  • Communicate effectively with other personnel, keeping associates and supervisors informed of operating conditions, scheduling concerns and other information necessary to maintain a safe productive operating environment.
  • Fill in for the Operator I during their absence.
  • Work overtime as required.

JOB SCOPE

Job has repetitive work situations with only modest changes in routine. The need for accuracy and effective utilization of accepted programs and procedures is high. Errors in judgment and execution will waste time and resources adversely impacting unit performance. Incumbent operates in accord with clearly defined instructions and routines with work priorities determined by supervision.

COMPETENCIES/SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE OR TRAINING PREFERRED

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior manufacturing experience in plastics and/or printing is preferred with a solid work history
  • Five (5) years of experience in a production environment preferably printing and/or rolled film plastics
  • Prior quality assurance experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with a variety of hand tools and power tools
  • Ability to perform data entry and to read and interpret simple bar charts and equipment operating variables
